More than 75 equine veterinarians and farriers from around the state gathered at Saginaw Valley Equine Clinic for a continuing education seminar (sponsored by Pfizer Animal Health and Merial) with a focus on navicular syndrome and heel trauma. Scott Morrison, DVM from Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., was the keynote speaker.

The morning session was Dr. Morrison’s pictorial tour and discussion of several ailments and treatments of heel pain in the horse. After lunch, SVEC’s Matt Davis, DVM, presented the case of Regallo, a 12-year-old Hanovarian gelding with heel pain. Regallo then made a live appearance for Dr. Morrison to evaluate and shoe. After Morrison applied the handmade shoes, Davis then demonstrated the techniques of the navicular bursa injection on Regallo.
