Airway Endoscopy

Airway Endoscopy Saginaw Valley Equine Clinic

With a state-of-the-art video Olympus endoscope, our veterinarians routinely diagnose and treat a variety of upper airway conditions. High quality images can be emailed or "burned" to a CD for our clients, referring veterinarians or referral hospitals. Using techniques such as tracheal washes and bronchoaveolar lavages, we are able to help isolate the underlying disease process behind chronic mucus production, Equine Reactive Airway Disease (ERAD, "Heaves") and Exercise Induced Pulmonary Hemmorhage (EIPH, "Bleeders")

SVEC’s video endoscope is equipped with a high-resolution, medical-grade monitor that allows the client to visualize affected structures during the examination. Additionally, the video endoscope is equipped with digital recording capabilities so each image obtained is stored permanently as part of your horse’s medical record. Portable endoscopy is also available. Among the uses:

  • Reproductive exams for mare and stallion infertility
  • Urinary tract exams
  • Upper airway exams for poor athletic performance
  • Gastrointestinal exams for choke, colic, stomach ulcers or poor performance
