Dentistry
SVEC is equipped with the latest in power dental equipment (Power Float), digital radiography and pharmaceuticals that allow us to provide safe, comfortable dental care for your horse. If your horse is experiencing any of the following symptoms, a dental exam should be performed:
- Dropping feed from its mouth while eating
- Weight loss
- Excessive salivation
- Foul odor from the mouth
- Nasal discharge or a swelling on the face
- Tossing, head tilting or fighting the bit
SVEC uses specialized hand tools and motorized equipment for routine and the not-so-routine maintenance of our patients’ dentistry. Additionally, all equipment is portable, so procedures can be performed in the field or in the clinic. Among the dental problems we treat:
- Sharp enamel points
- Retained caps (baby teeth that have not been shed)
- Retained wolf teeth
- Malalignment (wave or step mouth)
- Hooks on premolars and molars
- Infected teeth and/or gums
- Tooth fractures
Internal Medicine
SVEC is designed for around-the-clock observation and treatment of critical patients and equipped to provide respiratory and parenteral support to critical care neonates. There is also a dedicated area for internal medicine patients and an isolation facility staffed and equipped to meet the challenges of infectious disease and support critically ill horses. We use advanced diagnostics and on-site labs to quickly diagnose and closely monitor patients’ condition. Our greatest asset is our skilled and dedicated staff who provide patients with attentive care and comfort.
Ophthalmology
SVEC offers comprehensive care for your horse’s eye conditions, from cataracts to cancer. We utilize direct/indirect ophthalmoscopy to aid in the appropriate treatment for your horse. Surgeries (both standing and those that require general anesthesia) are routinely performed by our doctors.
